Turkish club Trabzonspor have confirmed that Mohamed Salah will join their club on Wednesday (August 5).
In a bombshell post on social media, the Turkiye outfit announced the news, which tells the player will arrive in the country ahead of his proposed move to the club.
“Professional footballer Mohamed Salah, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, will be at Istanbul Atatürk Airport General Aviation Terminal at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5 (tomorrow). The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours,” a statement from Trabzonspor said.
“The time and other details regarding the welcome program in Trabzon will be shared with the public through our club’s official communication channels during the day,” it added.
Mohamed Salah left Liverpool
Mohamed Salah left Liverpool as a free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season after nine trophy-laden years.
The Egyptian forward announced in March 2026 that he would depart Anfield, mutually agreeing with the club to tear up the final year of his contract (originally running to 2027). He scored over 255 goals in more than 435 appearances, becoming Liverpool’s third-highest all-time scorer and winning major honours including the Premier League and Champions League.
His exit followed a strained relationship with then-manager Arne Slot and a dip in form. Salah said emotional goodbyes at the season’s end. He took part for Egypt in the FIFA World Cup and led his team till the Round of 16, where they lost controversially to Argentina.
Who are Trabzonspor FC?
Founded in 1967 through the merger of several local clubs, Trabzonspor shattered the dominance of Istanbul’s traditional giants to become one of Turkish football’s greatest success stories.
Nicknamed the Black Sea Storm (Karadeniz Firtinasi), the club enjoyed a golden era in the 1970s and 1980s, winning seven Turkish league titles, six of them within a decade.
Their most recent Süper Lig triumph came in 2021-22, ending a 38-year wait and sparking historic celebrations across the city of Trabzon.
Playing their home matches at the Papara Park, Trabzonspor have also won multiple Turkish Cups and Super Cups while producing several iconic Turkish internationals.
Premier League big names like Daniel Sturridge, Florent Malouda, Nicolas Pepe, Jose Bosingwa have played at this club – while Man Utd goalkeeper Andre Onana currently plays here on loan.
