President Donald Trump on Friday unleashed an online tirade against one of the Republican senators who have blocked a vote on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination to formally lead the Department of Justice, writing that that the $1.776 billion “weaponization” fund that has driven opposition to Blanche among GOP holdouts should move forward.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump called out Texas Republican John Cornyn, one of the two GOP senators who’ve thus far blocked Blanche’s nomination from receiving a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee. He claimed Cornyn “never had a problem” with the plan to compensate convicted criminals who were prosecuted by Democratic administrations until after he’d opposed the Texan in this year’s GOP primary.
“John Cornyn never had a problem with the so called ‘Fund,’ which will not benefit me, but rather the great American Patriots who were hunted down like dogs and whose lives were unfairly and illegally destroyed by the Crooked Joe Biden Administration, until after I decided to Endorse and Support his Republican Primary opponent in Texas, who easily won the Nomination for the United States Senate,” he said.
