President Donald Trump launched into a racist tirade about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Somali-Americans who live in Minnesota, accusing the Democratic congresswoman of marrying her brother.
The president repeated the right-wing talking point that Omar, who came to the United States in her youth as a refugee from Somalia, married her brother.
“I believe she married her brother, which is totally illegal,” Trump said. “It’s a lovely couple actually, but it’s a little bit on the illegal side. ‘Darling. I love you very much.’ “Good night, brother. Let’s go to bed.”
The president made the remarks while speaking at the Villages in Florida, the world’s largest retirement community. He came to tout supposedly fulfilling his 2024 campaign promise to remove taxes on Social Security.
Though the One Big, Beautiful Bill he signed last year does not remove taxes on Social Security. Rather, between 2025 and 2028, senior citizens can claim an additional deduction of $6,000 and $12,000 for couples. Trump campaigned on removing taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security when he ran for re-election in 2024.

Trump has long focused on the widespread fraud investigation within Minnesota’s Somali-American community. That served as the impetus of Operation Metro Surge, the operation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He would proceed to impersonate Omar before criticizing her.
