Cole Palmer states there is no intention to leave Chelsea for Manchester United, clarifying speculation before Saturday’s meeting between the clubs. The England international stresses commitment while Chelsea chase a Champions League place and prepare for an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds, during a season shaped by injuries, dips in form and pressure on Liam Rosenior’s squad.
Palmer’s future became a talking point as transfer reports linked the 23-year-old with Old Trafford, despite Chelsea recently tying Reece James and Moises Caicedo to new deals. The forward now stresses stability, both personally and within the squad, as Chelsea’s ownership group works on summer recruitment plans and aims to keep key players settled.
Asked about rumours surrounding a switch to Manchester United, Palmer responded directly and dismissed the stories. “Everyone just talks, Palmer told the Guardian. When I see it I just laugh.” The comments underline Palmer’s message that current focus stays on Chelsea’s season objectives rather than possible future moves elsewhere in the Premier League.
Palmer has endured a mixed campaign, limited by fitness issues and form swings, yet still delivering important contributions. The attacker has played 21 Premier League matches and four Champions League fixtures, scoring nine league goals and adding one assist. Those contributions come as Chelsea sit in the Champions League race, relying on Palmer’s creativity in decisive games.
Off the pitch, Chelsea’s dressing room has faced scrutiny. Enzo Fernandez received a two-match suspension after comments about Real Madrid interest, while Marc Cucurella avoided punishment despite similar remarks about Barcelona. Five defeats in six recent outings increased external pressure on Rosenior, although new long-term contracts for James and Caicedo eased some concerns about squad direction.
Palmer also stressed confidence in Chelsea’s project, pointing to discussions with ownership and James’ contract decision. “Obviously, Manchester is my home. All my family are there, but I don’t miss it. Maybe I’ll miss it if I don’t go for three months or something. But then when I get home I think there’s nothing there for me anyway. I’ve got no plans to move from Chelsea. We’ve still got a lot to play for. We’ve got the FA Cup semi-final [against Leeds] and if we finish in a Champions League spot it puts us in a good position to sign players that we need. We spoke to the owners and they’re sure of the players that are going to do it. Reece won’t sign a six-year contract if he’s not spoken to the owners and the directors. Me and Reece spoke a lot. About things we need, players we need to sign and how things need to be. He wouldn’t sign a new contract if he didn’t know what was going on.”
That backing from senior figures coincides with strong home form against Manchester United. Chelsea have suffered only one defeat across the last 12 Premier League home meetings with United, winning six and drawing five. Rosenior’s side now aim for a third straight home victory over United, something last achieved at Stamford Bridge in April 2006.

Chelsea’s on-field numbers and historical record against Manchester United highlight why Palmer’s role remains important.
As Chelsea approach a decisive run featuring the FA Cup semi-final and the push for Champions League qualification, Palmer’s public commitment sets a clear stance. The forward rejects talk of a Manchester United move, aligns with club leadership on future recruitment, and prepares for a key role in Chelsea’s remaining fixtures at Stamford Bridge and beyond.
