Mohun Bagan Super Giant could be without three key players for their Indian Super League (ISL) fixture against Punjab FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday (October 31).
Australian striker Jamie Maclaren and Indian midfielder Lalengmawia Ralte, popularly known as Apuia, are doubtful for the encounter and are unlikely to feature in the starting XI. Meanwhile, Portuguese midfielder Miguel Figueira has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, dealing another setback to head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis.
Jamie Maclaren, Apuia Unlikely to Start Against Punjab FC
Maclaren’s availability remains a major concern for the Kolkata-based outfit. The Australian forward has been nursing an injury, and the coaching staff are taking a cautious approach regarding his return.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Dilmperis indicated that Maclaren would undergo another assessment before the match. The striker could potentially be included among the substitutes if he is fit enough to feature, but a starting role appears unlikely.
“Jamie is trying to be available. We will see if he can start tomorrow,” Dilmperis said at the pre-match press conference on Friday.
Apuia is another concern for Mohun Bagan. The Indian international has been recovering from an illness that required hospitalisation. Although he has been discharged, he has not returned to full training and remains doubtful for Saturday’s encounter. His potential absence could affect Bagan’s midfield balance, particularly against a Punjab FC side that has made a promising start to its ISL campaign.
Miguel Figueira Out With Hamstring Injury
Miguel Figueira is the confirmed absentee for the fixture. The Portuguese midfielder is recovering from a hamstring injury and is expected to remain unavailable for the Punjab FC encounter. The MBSG head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis confirmed his issue, but didn’t reveal the extent of his absence.
The Brazilian’s absence could be particularly significant given his contribution to Mohun Bagan’s attacking play. Figueira scored the winning goal in the Mariners’ 2-1 victory over Sporting Club Delhi earlier in the campaign.
