Manchester United confirm that Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract running until 2031, securing the midfielder’s long-term future at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old’s previous agreement was due to finish at the end of the 2026-27 season.
Mainoo has already played 98 competitive matches for Manchester United and scored the winning goal in the 2023-24 FA Cup final under Erik ten Hag. The midfielder’s new deal follows a strong spell of form in the Premier League this season.
Since Michael Carrick took over as interim manager, Mainoo has appeared in 12 of 13 league fixtures. The only game missed in that period was the defeat against Leeds United, when injury kept the midfielder out of the squad.
During those Premier League matches under Carrick, only Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have logged more minutes among outfield players. Fernandes has played 1,169 minutes, Casemiro 1,105 minutes and Mainoo 1,065 minutes, underlining Mainoo’s importance to Manchester United’s current system.
Passing and tackling data also highlight Mainoo’s impact for Manchester United. Fernandes leads the team with 11 assists and 614 successful passes. Mainoo has contributed two assists and completed 588 passes, while Casemiro is the only player to win more tackles, with 18 compared with Mainoo’s 15.
| Player | Minutes played | Assists | Completed passes | Tackles won |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bruno Fernandes | 1,169 | 11 | 614 | – |
| Casemiro | 1,105 | – | – | 18 |
| Kobbie Mainoo | 1,065 | 2 | 588 | 15 |
The midfielder had earlier slipped down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim this season. However, Mainoo has re-established a regular role since Carrick’s appointment, becoming a consistent starter in midfield and reinforcing Manchester United’s options at Old Trafford.
Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family, Mainoo told the club website.
I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt. From The Cliff, to Littleton Road, to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible. I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six. We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.
Mainoo’s extended contract gives Manchester United stability in central midfield and rewards development through the club’s system. With strong recent performances and increasing responsibility, Mainoo is positioned to remain a central figure at Old Trafford across the coming seasons.
