Jamshedpur FC have officially confirmed that they will not participate in the Indian Super League (ISL) from the 2026-27 season onwards.

In a club statement released on Friday, Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL) announced the decision while reiterating its commitment to the development of Indian football through other initiatives beyond the ISL.

The club failed to pay the amount of Rs 1.1 crore in two instalments to the AIFF as participation fee. The deadline of payment was extended till Friday evening, but they failed to meet the deadline.

“Jamshedpur Football Club would like to confirm that it will not be participating in ISL from 2026-27 season onwards,” a statement from the club said.

The club stated that it would continue to promote football at the grassroots level by identifying and nurturing young talent across the country.

“We will continue in our endeavour to promote and develop the game of football, including at the grassroots level. We will continue to identify and develop young football talent across India to create a strong pathway for young players from grassroots to national and international football,” it added.

Jamshedpur FC also paid an emotional tribute to their loyal supporters, thanking the fans who transformed the JRD Tata Sports Complex into the famed “Furnace” over the years. The club expressed gratitude to its players, coaches, staff, employees and everyone associated with the team since its inception in 2017, acknowledging their role in building one of Indian football’s most respected clubs.

The statement concluded by thanking the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for its continued support and wishing both the AIFF and the Indian Super League success in the future.

Founded in 2017 by Tata Steel, Jamshedpur FC quickly established itself as one of the league’s most competitive sides. The club won the ISL League Winners’ Shield in the 2021-22 season under head coach Owen Coyle, setting a then-record points tally in the league stage.

The uncertainty surrounding the future of the ISL this season came to an end after the AIFF transferred the league’s commercial rights to the participating clubs for an initial four-year period. Under the new arrangement, however, the clubs retain the flexibility to withdraw from the agreement after two years through a unilateral exit clause.

The move follows a disrupted 2025-26 ISL season, which was delayed and shortened to a single-leg format of just 13 matches per team over a little more than three months after the expiry of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) between the AIFF and its former commercial partner, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), in December 2025.

As part of the revamped structure, the AIFF has embraced a club-led governance model, with the clubs taking charge of the league’s commercial operations while the federation continues to oversee its administrative and regulatory responsibilities.

Despite pulling out of the ISL, Jamshedpur FC continue to participate in the Durand Cup this season, as all of their matches are being played in Ranchi.
