Mohun Bagan Super Giant produced a dramatic late winner to defeat Odisha FC 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at the Salt Lake Stadium in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Thursday. Dejan Drazic scored twice, while Lee Erwin netted the decisive goal in the 88th minute as the Mariners secured all three points and moved to the top of the league standings.
The victory means Panagiotis Dilmperis’ side will head into the international break as league leaders with 12 points from five matches.
Mohun Bagan started the contest on the front foot and nearly took the lead inside the opening minute. Lee Erwin found himself in a promising position inside the box, but Odisha goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari produced a good save to deny the forward.
Despite the Mariners’ attacking intent, neither side managed to break the deadlock in the first half, with Tiwari making several important interventions to keep Odisha in the contest.
The breakthrough finally arrived two minutes after the restart. Anirudh Thapa played an excellent through ball for Dejan Drazic, who showcased his individual brilliance by weaving past Odisha’s defenders before slotting home with his left foot in the 47th minute.
However, Odisha responded almost immediately. Nihal Sudhish delivered a dangerous cross into the box, allowing Mahmoud Eid to tap home from close range in the 51st minute and restore parity.
Mohun Bagan regained the advantage in the 74th minute. Lallianzuala Chhangte displayed impressive footwork to get past his marker before delivering a low cross for Drazic, who completed his brace with a simple finish.
Odisha refused to give up and found another equaliser five minutes later. Everton collected the ball after a deflection involving Tekcham Abhishek Singh before turning and producing a superb right-footed curler to make it 2-2.
With the contest seemingly heading towards a draw, Erwin emerged as the match-winner. The forward fired a powerful right-footed effort into the bottom-left corner in the 88th minute to seal a memorable victory for the Mariners.
