Chelsea have completed the signing of teenager Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP on a long-term deal. The forward has agreed a contract running until June 2034, tying Quenda to Stamford Bridge for eight years. The agreement between the clubs was first reached in March last year, and Quenda stayed in Lisbon for the 2025-26 season before officially switching to the Premier League club.
The transfer from Sporting CP is reported to be worth up to 40m, which equals 46.9m. Chelsea have also confirmed a new contract for Jesse Derry, whose deal now runs until June 2032. Derry is expected to spend the 2026-27 campaign on loan at Sporting, linking the two clubs again while Quenda begins life in west London.
Quenda has spoken about the move after finally arriving at Stamford Bridge following the delayed transfer. “It feels great to be here,” Quenda told the club’s website. “Chelsea is a great team, and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown faith in players like me, and I am proud to be here, proud to be part of this club.”
Chelsea have highlighted Quenda’s arrival with an announcement on social media, confirming the 19-year-old’s long-term commitment. The statement underlined that the contract runs until 2034, matching the length reported by the club. The message also confirmed that Quenda joins from Sporting Lisbon, using the name often applied to Sporting CP outside Portugal.

Quenda has already set out personal targets for the Chelsea chapter of a career that began in Lisbon. "I am excited to work with my team-mates and the manager, Xabi Alonso. I'm a very hard-working young person, and I like to help my team. I want to be someone known for having the right mentality to help my team-mates and who does their best for the club to win trophies."
Chelsea and Geovany Quenda Sporting record and honours
Before joining Chelsea, Quenda progressed through Sporting’s academy and broke several records at senior level. The attacker made a first-team debut in August 2024 and became Sporting’s youngest scorer at 17 years and 95 days. Quenda is also the youngest Portuguese player to score in the Champions League, striking in a 4-0 win over Kairat last season.
Across all competitions for Sporting, Quenda played 86 matches and scored nine goals, while also impressing in domestic fixtures. The performances brought the Primeira Liga Young Player of the season award for 2024-25. During that campaign, Quenda helped Sporting secure a league and Taca de Portugal double. Sporting missed the title the following season, ending six points behind Porto in the final table.
Chelsea now have Quenda secured until 2034 and Derry under contract until 2032, with both linked to Sporting in different ways. Quenda arrives in west London carrying strong experience from Portugal and European competition. Derry moves the other way on loan for 2026-27, giving Sporting reinforcement while Chelsea monitor development on both fronts.
