ormer Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue believes Mikel Arteta has built a team capable of winning the Premier League, backing the Gunners to end their wait for another league title. Eboue has also expressed confidence in Arsenal’s prospects in the UEFA Champions League, suggesting that opponents are beginning to fear the north London club.
Having experienced Arsenal during their dominant years under Arsène Wenger, Eboue understands the standards associated with the club. While acknowledging the differences between Wenger and Arteta, the former Ivory Coast international is impressed by the Spaniard’s tactical approach and the development of his young squad.
Speaking exclusively via LiveFootballTickets, Eboue praised Arteta’s work and explained why he enjoys watching the current Arsenal team.
On Mikel Arteta and the current Arsenal team
“I don’t really like comparing our generation with this generation because Arsène Wenger and Mikel Arteta are different managers. Arteta is very technical. He likes his team to play football and he has a lot of young players. I watch Arsenal every weekend and you can see that he has changed a lot of things since he came to the club. I’m very happy with the job he is doing. The Arsenal supporters are happy with the way the team plays and I really like Arteta as a manager,” Eboue said.
Although Arteta has established his own identity, Eboue believes Wenger’s influence on Arsenal remains unmatched. The former defender highlighted their contrasting touchline personalities while underlining the Frenchman’s contribution to the club.
Arteta compared with Arsène Wenger
“They are very different. Arteta is much more active on the bench. Arsène was very quiet. He would watch everything and afterwards he would tell you what was good and what wasn’t. Wenger brought so many great things to Arsenal. He was the boss. For me, Wenger is the best,” he said.
Eboue gives Arsenal 75% chance of winning Premier League
Arsenal’s title ambitions remain central to Eboue’s optimism. While recognising the competition they face, he believes consistent performances under Arteta could finally deliver the league crown.
“Arsenal are my team. This season is going to be very tough because there are so many good teams and good players. But if Arsenal play the way they have been playing, I believe they can win the league. I would give them maybe a 75 per cent chance.”
Eboue also identified Chelsea as a side Arsenal cannot afford to underestimate, pointing to the quality within their squad. And the former Ivory Coast international reckons Chelsea will be the nearest rivals for the title.
