East Bengal FC have dealt a massive blow to their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 campaign, confirming that talismanic winger Naorem Mahesh Singh has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The Indian international sustained a significant knee injury during the club’s away fixture against Chennaiyin FC on April 11, 2026. Following extensive medical evaluations by the club’s specialists, the decision was made to sideline the player to prioritize his long-term recovery and rehabilitation.
The incident occurred during a high-intensity passage of play at the Marina Arena, where Mahesh was forced off the pitch in visible discomfort. Initial fears within the camp were confirmed late Monday evening when the club released a formal medical update.
“Naorem Mahesh Singh, who sustained a knee injury during our recent ISL away match against Chennaiyin FC, is currently under the supervision of our club’s medical team, which is assessing the extent of his injury,” the club stated.
“Mahesh is expected to miss the remainder of the season. We wish him a speedy recovery and will extend full support to him during this phase,” it added.
While the specific nature of the knee injury has not been publicly detailed, the “season-ending” designation suggests a recovery timeline that extends into the mid-year break. The Red and Gold Brigade currently sit in a decent position in the table and will need to find internal solutions quickly as they prepare for their next league encounter without their star.
