Andoni Iraola has backed incoming head coach Marco Rose to guide Bournemouth well, both next season and beyond, while the team continues a strong push for European qualification from eighth place in the Premier League table.
Iraola confirmed last week that the current campaign will be the last at Vitality Stadium, with the contract ending at season’s close and interest reported from Athletic Club, Newcastle United and Real Madrid regarding the next step in Iraola’s career.
Bournemouth moved quickly to secure a replacement, announcing on Monday that Marco Rose had signed a three-year deal to become the next head coach, giving the squad clarity before Wednesday’s Premier League match against Leeds United on the south coast.
Speaking about the appointment, Iraola said: “I think the club will be in very good hands. He’s a great manager.” Bournemouth expect Rose to build on the current progress and keep the team competitive in future seasons, including the European race.
Rose has built a strong reputation in European football, winning Austrian Bundesliga titles with Salzburg in 2017-18 and 2018-19, then managing Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund, before joining RB Leipzig and lifting the DFB-Pokal in 2023.
During the spell at RB Leipzig, Rose took charge of more Bundesliga matches, and more league wins, than any previous Leipzig head coach, overseeing 90 games and 49 victories, with a win percentage of 54% across that period in Germany’s top flight.
Iraola’s achievements at Bournemouth set a high standard for Rose. In 109 Premier League matches, Iraola has recorded 39 wins, 35 draws and 35 defeats, with a 36% win rate, the best for any Bournemouth manager in the competition, ahead of Gary O’Neil, Eddie Howe and Scott Parker.

Discussing Rose further, Iraola said: “I praised him a few years ago. I always liked his teams, and I hope he continues that. He’s a good manager with a lot of European experience. He looks very exciting. I don’t know him personally, but I always like his teams. They should be happy because he’s someone who can definitely improve the team. I’m sure the players are happy they know what’s happening.”
Bournemouth enter the Leeds fixture still firmly involved in the battle for European spots, knowing that a win would take the club into the top seven, though Andoni Iraola expects a tight contest in a crowded race for those places.
Iraola reflected on the situation, stating: “We are in a good place in the standings, but it’s going to be so difficult for us, Iraola said. We are competing against not one or two but a lot of teams.” Bournemouth now look to maintain form, before handing the project to Marco Rose in the summer.
