Arsenal secured the Premier League title with one round left after Manchester City drew 1-1 at Bournemouth, ending the title race. The result confirmed a first league crown in 22 years for Arsenal, triggering celebrations at Emirates Stadium hours after full-time.
The draw also meant City failed to retain the English top-flight for a second straight season under Pep Guardiola. Speculation around Guardiola’s future continued, and if a departure follows this week, it will come after losing control of the domestic championship.
City travelled to the Vitality Stadium needing victory to keep pressure on Arsenal and delay the trophy presentation. The visitors began on the front foot, with Jeremy Doku forcing a save from Djordje Petrovic and Antoine Semenyo finding the net, only for an offside flag to halt the celebrations.
Bournemouth soon highlighted City’s defensive uncertainty when Evanilson missed a clear opening, a warning that went unanswered. Six minutes before half-time, Adrien Truffert cut the ball back for Junior Kroupi, who controlled neatly before bending a precise finish into the top-right corner beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Early in the second half, City pushed for an equaliser as Erling Haaland drove forward and released Nico O’Reilly, who could not beat Petrovic. Bournemouth then wasted three rapid chances to double the lead, keeping Arsenal supporters anxious as the title hinged on late moments.
Evanilson twice threatened, testing Donnarumma and then setting up Kroupi for a wayward attempt, before Rayan swivelled and struck the outside of the post. Substitute David Brooks later broke clear one-v-one and also hit the upright, underlining Bournemouth’s attacking threat throughout the contest.
City finally levelled in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Rodri struck the woodwork and Haaland smashed in the rebound. There was no opportunity for a second goal, though, and when the final whistle sounded, Arsenal’s players and supporters knew the Premier League title was theirs.
Arsenal Premier League history, Arteta’s age record and Kroupi milestone
Twenty-two years after the 2003-04 “Invincibles” season, Arsenal claimed a 14th top-flight crown and a fourth Premier League-era success. Mikel Arteta, aged 44 years and 54 days, became the second-youngest manager to win the Premier League, underlining a rapid rise in elite coaching.
Only Jose Mourinho has lifted the Premier League at a younger age, doing so with Chelsea in 2004-05 at 42 years and 94 days, then again in 2005-06 at 43 years and 94 days. Arteta joined that select group by guiding Arsenal back to the summit.
City’s frustration was measured by the underlying numbers. Bournemouth registered 10 shots to City’s 14 but led the expected goals (xG) count 1.99 to 1.67, reflecting the quality of chances created by the Cherries and reinforcing that the hosts were strong value for a point.
| Team | Shots | xG | Final Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bournemouth | 10 | 1.99 | 1 |
| Manchester City | 14 | 1.67 | 1 |
Kroupi’s goal added an historic personal mark. With strikes against Arsenal, City and Manchester United in this campaign, Kroupi became the first teenager to score against each of the season’s top three Premier League teams in a single league campaign.
Kroupi now has 13 Premier League goals this season, the highest tally recorded by a teenager in a debut campaign in the competition. That output has been central to Bournemouth’s surge up the table and added another storyline to Arsenal’s title-clinching evening.
Bournemouth’s reward extends beyond this result, with the club qualifying for European competition for the first time. Bournemouth sit three points behind Liverpool and still have a possible route to the Champions League via sixth place, which would require Aston Villa winning the Europa League.

Arsenal’s long wait ended through consistent league form, while City slipped under pressure and Bournemouth advanced into Europe with Kroupi central to their progress. The match at the Vitality Stadium therefore shaped the destination of the title and reshaped ambitions for both competing clubs.
