East Bengal defender Anwar Ali is set to miss the club’s upcoming fixture against Chennaiyin FC after sustaining a hamstring injury during the AFC Champions League Two encounter against Al Seeb.
The Indian international has undergone an MRI scan, with the extent of the injury and his recovery timeline expected to become clearer once the medical report is available. Further evaluation is set to be available on Thursday, as his MRI report arrives to the club.
MyKhel understands that Anwar is unlikely to feature against Chennaiyin FC. He is also expected to miss India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand, dealing a setback to both East Bengal and the national team.
Anwar Ali Injury NOT a Long-Term One
However, there is no indication at this stage that the injury is a long-term concern. The defender’s absence will depend on the grade of the hamstring injury, which will determine the rehabilitation period and his return date.
Anwar sustained the injury during East Bengal’s AFC Champions League Two match against Al Seeb. In the first half, the defender sustained the hamstring injury, and after a couple of minutes of struggle on the pitch, he was taken off. East Bengal head coach Antonio Lopez Habas also pointed out Anwar’s injury as a big blow for them in the match, as he had to rearrange his backline.
The defender’s condition will be closely monitored once the MRI findings are assessed, with the club expected to have a clearer picture of his availability in the coming days.
The Torch Bearers will take on Chennaiyin FC next in the Indian Super League on Saturday (November 7), before a couple of weeks’ hiatus due to the international break.
