All American Airlines flights were temporarily grounded Tuesday after a nationwide IT outage.

“A technology issue briefly impacted connectivity for some of our systems on Tuesday evening. Connectivity has been fully restored,” an American Airlines spokesperson told The Independent Tuesday night.

The major US carrier said in an earlier X post that it had put a temporary ground stop on its planes “while our teams worked to resolve the issue.” The ground stop lasted for about 45 minutes, according to the spokesperson.

The Air Traffic Control System Command Center wrote in a message at around 6:30 p.m. ET Tuesday that an IT outage was affecting all airports.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” the American Airlines spokesperson said. “We appreciate the efforts of our team to bring our systems back online so quickly and take care of our customers.”

There were more than 1,500 reports of issues with American Airlines’ systems at around 6:30 ET, according to Downdetector.

Fifty-two percent of users reported issues with the carrier’s app.

“They can’t finish boarding my flight because the internet is down,” one traveler wrote on Downdetector at the time.

Another who identified as an American Airlines employee said the “whole system is down” and warned of delays.

There were more than 1,300 flight delays from American Airlines by Tuesday night, according to FlightAware.

The number of disruptions has not been out of the norm. Wednesday saw nearly 1,300 American Airlines flight delays.

The Independent has reached out to American Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration for comment.

None of the other major U.S. carriers — United Airlines, Delta Air Lines or Southwest Airlines — reported issues with their flights Tuesday.

In March, all JetBlue flights were temporarily grounded due to a “system outage,” the New York City-based carrier said at the time.

”Operations are normal after JetBlue asked the FAA to pause flights nationwide overnight because of an internal IT issue,” the federal agency said in a statement once the ground stop was lifted.
