June 18 (UPI) — The star-studded supernatural drama, The Boroughs, will not be returning for a second season on Netflix.
The news was reported Wednesday by The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline and Variety.
Low viewership and high costs were blamed for the show’s demise.
Produced by the Duffer Brothers and starring Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, Clarke Peters and Denis O’Hare, the series took place in a New Mexico retirement community premiered May 21.
“When a terrifying nighttime encounter reveals that something monstrous is stalking the manicured cul-de-sacs, a grieving newcomer is inspired to join a misfit crew of unlikely heroes who uncover a dark secret that proves their ‘golden years’ are more dangerous, and they are more formidable, than anyone expects,” the streaming service said in a synopsis said.
