May 11 (UPI) — NBC has announced a new game show based on the New York Times word game Wordle.
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie will host the primetime series, with Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon to serve as an executive producer.
The Wordle show will see contestants form teams and attempt to solve five-letter word puzzles for a cash prize.
“It builds on the way the puzzle community engages with Wordle every day — solving together, sharing wins, debating strategies and cheering one another on,” a press release reads.
Production on Wordle will begin later this year, with the show slated to premiere in 2027. Casting is now open.
“I feel very honored to be working with Savannah Guthrie on this show,” Fallon said in a statement. “Savannah has that rare combination of intelligence, charm, and warmth that makes everyone feel instantly welcome. And she obviously knows how to host a show. I am super proud and happy and I think we developed a solid gamer for primetime.”
Guthrie returned to Today in April, months after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing from her Arizona home. Nancy Guthrie, 84, is believed to have been abducted and her whereabouts remain unknown.
