June 12 (UPI) — A Louisiana real estate agent on her way to check on a property listing captured a photo of a highly unusual jaywalker: a massive African eland antelope.
Tina McKnight Rist said she was driving in Plain Dealing when she spotted the unexpected creature near a wandering herd of cows.
The animal, which Rist initially thought might be a Brahma bull, was identified as an African eland, an animal that can grow to up to 1,100 pounds.
“He stepped out and started walking across the road and I stopped and I was looking at him. And he didn’t act like he was scared of me at all. He was more docile and more like confused, like, you know, what am I supposed to do? Where am I supposed to go? You don’t belong in this part of the woods,” Rist told KTBS-TV.
The antelope’s origins are a mystery, but some residents suggested it may have absconded from a game park in the Springhill area.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office said the eland is believed to still be on the loose.
