Aug. 14 (UPI) — Jason Arday, who resigned under pressure last week after making history as the youngest Black professor in University of Cambridge history, has been found dead in London, police said Friday.

Arday, 41, had been hailed as a success story by becoming Cambridge’s youngest Black professor after overcoming autism and global developmental delay which saw him remain nonverbal until age 11.

But this year he faced accusations of plagiarism and embellishment. He resigned last week after the university announced it was launching a new investigation into his qualifications and path to gaining his academic post.

Without directly naming him, London’s Metropolitan Police said Arday was found dead in his London home after officers responded to an ambulance call.

“A 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene,” police said in a statement issued to media outlets. “His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

“At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. The case is being investigated by officers from the Met’s central south command unit. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The University of Cambridge issued a statement reading, “We are desperately saddened to hear this tragic news. Our heartfelt sympathies go to Jason Arday’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
