Aug. 18 (UPI) — The New York Giants agreed to a one-year contract with veteran free agent running back Najee Harris, a league source told UPI on Tuesday.
Harris, 28, spent last season with the Los Angeles Chargers. He totaled 18 touches for 86 yards from scrimmage over three appearances in 2025. Harris missed the final 14 games of the season due to a torn Achilles.
The No. 24 overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2021 NFL Draft totaled at least 1,200 yards from scrimmage in each of his first four seasons. Harris, who earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie, scored 34 times through the first 71 appearances of his career.
He is now set to join a Giants running backs room that features Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary and Eric Gray. Skattebo is still recovering from the dislocated right ankle he sustained last season.
The Giants owned the No. 5 rushing attack in the NFL last season. Tracy totaled a team-high 1,028 yards from scrimmage and scored four times over 15 appearances.
Skattebo logged 617 yards from scrimmage and seven scores as a rookie. He totaled four carries for 19 yards in the Giants’ 13-10 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday in East Rutherford, N.J.
The Giants will face the Miami Dolphins in their second preseason matchup at 4 p.m. EDT Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla. They will take on the New York Jets in their preseason finale Aug. 28 in East Rutherford.
The Giants will host the Dallas Cowboys in their regular season opener Sept. 13 at MetLife Stadium.
