May 6 (UPI) — The Harry Potter television series has been renewed for Season 2 ahead of its debut.
Deadline reported Wednesday that the television adaptation of the J.K. Rowling fantasy book series will resume production this fall.
Variety and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
Season 1 is based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first book in Rowling’s series, and will premiere Dec. 25 on HBO and HBO Max.
Season 2 is expected to adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, with writer Jon Brown to join Francesca Gardiner as co-showrunner on that season.
“It has been a joy to write on Philosopher’s Stone and I’d like to thank Francesca and HBO for putting their faith in me to continue this remarkable journey. Seems you’re never too old to get your invitation to Hogwarts,” Brown said in a statement.
The Harry Potter cast will include Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, Alastair Stout as Ron, and John Lithgow as Dumbledore.
Rowling’s books were previously adapted as a series of films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
