Sept. 21 (UPI) — Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Saquon Barkley were among the NFL players injured in Week 1. Injured NFL players will be evaluated this week to determine the extent of their injuries and potential timelines for return.
Jadarian Price, Jayden Reed, Alec Pierce, Dallas Goedert, Mike Evans, Charvarius Ward and A.J. Terrell were among other notable players hurt through Sunday’s wave of games.
Williams appeared to sustain one of the most significant injuries of the week. The Chicago Bears quarterback was carted to the locker room in the fourth quarter of a 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Williams limped off the field favoring his right hamstring.
Bears coach Ben Johnson said Williams will be evaluated Monday.
Johnson said Williams was “in good spirits” after the game. He completed 15 of 26 passes for 138 yards and an interception and ran for 42 yards. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent completed 5 of 9 passes for 54 yards.
“We’ll see how bad it is [Tuesday] and we’ll go from there,” Johnson said of Williams.
Case Keenum is the Bears’ third-string quarterback. Miller Moss is the Bears’ practice squad quarterback.
Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson also sustained a hamstring injury.
Vikings defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins injured a hip and did not return. The Bears (1-1) will host the Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) on Sept. 28 in Chicago. The Vikings (2-0) will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2) on Sunday in Tampa, Fla.
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley sustained a stringer and missed most of the first half of a 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in Nashville. He returned in the second half.
Barkley totaled five touches for 20 yards from scrimmage. Backup running back Tank Bigsby logged 15 touches for 38 yards from scrimmage and a score. The Eagles also lost tight end Dallas Goedert to a knee injury. He did not return. Goedert caught one pass for 4 yards.
Barkley told reporters he will undergo an MRI this week.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in the first half of a 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He did not return.
Daniels completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards and a score and ran for 69 yards on seven carries. Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 11 of 16 passes for 111 yard and a score in relief of the Commanders starter.
Athan Kaliakmanis is the Commanders’ third-string quarterback. Sam Hartman is the Commanders’ practice squad quarterback.
Commanders coach Dan Quinn said at his postgame news conference that X-rays on Daniels’ elbow did not show any fractures. He will undergo more imaging Monday.
Daniels dislocated the same elbow last season and returned about a month later. He then reinjured the elbow in Week 14 and missed the rest of the 2025-26 campaign.
“Man, are we bummed for him,” Quinn said of Daniels. “He was really playing his [expletive] off. We will rally so hard around Marcus until Jayden is back.”
Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi (concussion), defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw (shoulder) and left tackle Coleman (finger) also exited with injuries.
Cowboys cornerback Cobie Durant (hamstring) and safety P.J. Lock (foot) also were hurt.
The Commanders (0-2) will host the Seattle Seahawks (2-0) on Sunday in Landover, Md. The Cowboys (1-1) will host the Baltimore Ravens (1-1) on Sunday in Arlington, Texas.
Seahawks rookie running back Jadarian Price sustained a chest injury in the fourth quarter of a 31-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in Glendale, Ariz. He logged 13 carries for 52 yards and an 8-yard catch.
Seahawks coach Mike MacDonald said X-rays returned negative results.
Backup running back Emanuel Wilson totaled 92 yards on 21 carries. George Holani logged 13 yards on four carries. Velus Jones Jr. and Jacardia Wright are the Seahawks’ practice squad running backs.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed hurt his neck and left the field on a stretcher in the first quarter of a 20-17 win over the New York Jets.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Reed had movement in all of his extremities, but stayed overnight in the New Jersey area for further observation.
Offensive tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (knee), guard Aaron Banks (toe) and defensive tackle Anthony Campbell (ankle) also exited early. The Jets lost defensive lineman David Onyemata (groin) and linebackers Marcelino McCrary-Ball (ankle) and Kiko Mauigoa (quad).
The Packers (1-1) will host the Atlanta Falcons (0-2) at 8:15 p.m. EDT Thursday in Green Bay, Wis.
Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell sustained a groin injury in a 34-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in Atlanta. Defensive end Samson Ebukam (hamstring) also exited early. Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski did not provide updates on the injuries at his postgame news conference.
The Panthers lost safety Nick Scott to an abdomen injury.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce hurt his heel and was carted off the field in the first half of a 33-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Colts also lost cornerback Charvarius Ward to a groin injury. Ward logged two total tackles. Pierce caught one pass for 11 yards against the Chiefs.
Colts coach Shane Steichen said he was not concerned about Pierce, and his X-rays returned negative results. Pierce was in a walking boot and using crutches after the game.
Cam Taylor-Britt and Kapena Gushiken are the Colts’ backup cornerbacks, behind Ward, fellow starter Sauce Gardner and nickel back Justin Walley.
Laquon Treadwell, Ashton Dulin and Deion Burks are among the Colts’ backup wide receivers, behind Pierce, Josh Downs and Keenan Allen.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans hurt a a hip during a 35-13 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif. The 49ers also lost wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. to high ankle sprains.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Evans’ injury does not appear to be serious and he could have returned, if needed.
The Dolphins lost running back Jaylen Wright (stinger) and defensive end Robert Beal Jr. (hamstring).
The 49ers (2-0) will host the Cardinals (1-1) on Sunday in Santa Clara. The Dolphins (0-2) will host the Chiefs (2-0) on Sunday in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rico Dowdle sustained a toe injury during a 20-3 loss to the New England Patriots. He logged nine touches for 44 yards before his exit. Steelers starter Jaylen Warren totaled 77 yards from scrimmage off 13 touches.
Steelers coach Mike McCarthy did not provide an update on Dowdle’s injury at his postgame news conference. Eli Heidenreich and Travis Homer are the other running backs on the Steelers roster. Lew Nichols is their practice squad running back.
Patriots offensive lineman Mike Onwenu (ankle), tight end Eli Raridon (thigh), linebacker Dre’Mont Jones (shoulder) and safety Dell Pettus (ankle) also sustained injuries.
The Patriots (1-1) will play the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) on Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla. The Steelers (1-1) will face the Cincinnati Bengals (2-0) on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins sustained a hamstring injury during a 20-13 win over the Jaguars on Sunday in Denver. He totaled 36 yards on 10 carries. Coach Sean Payton did not provide an update on the injury.
Fellow Broncos running back Jonah Coleman totaled 58 yards from scrimmage and a score off 13 touches. R.J. Harvey and Tyler Badie are the other running backs on the Broncos roster. Harvey did not play against the Jaguars due to a hamstring injury.
Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (toe) and Los Angeles Chargers tight end David Njoku (knee) were among the other players injured in Week 2.
The Los Angeles Rams (0-1) will host the New York Giants (1-0) in the NFL’s Week 2 finale at 8:15 p.m. Monday in Inglewood, Calif.
