May 11 (UPI) — Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy was shot at a concert in Mississippi, underwent surgery and is in stable condition, the school said Monday.
Laurel (Miss.) Police Department Sgt. Macon Davis told the Laurel Leader-Call the shooting occurred early Sunday at the Kamakazy Biker Club in Laurel, Miss. Police told WJTV 12 News that Hardy was shot in the upper leg.
“There had been a scheduled concert there of some rappers, or maybe a couple of different rappers,” Davis said. “It drew a large crowd, and then gunshots rang out at the end.”
Davis said Hardy was one of two confirmed victims, and that three suspects were taken into custody. The incident remains under investigation.
“Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans,” the Tigers said. “We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”
Hardy’s 1,649 rushing yards last season were the second-most in the country, trailing only Jacksonville State’s Cam Cook, who ran for 1,659. Hardy is projected as one of the top running backs in the 2027 NFL Draft class.
Hardy, 20, totaled 256 attempts and scored 16 times last season en route to All-American honors. The junior running back spent his freshman season at Louisiana-Monroe. He led the Sun Belt with 1,351 rushing yards and 13 scores that season.
The Tigers will start their 2026 campaign against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Sept. 3 in Columbia, Mo.
