Rangers moved back to the top of the Scottish Premiership for the first time in two years, edging Dundee United 4-2 in a tense match at Ibrox Stadium. The result may be temporary, as Hearts can reclaim first place by beating Livingston on Sunday.
The match swung several times before Rangers secured control late on. Substitute Bojan Miovski settled home nerves in the 85th minute, finishing a swift break started by Youssef Chermiti and drilling past Dave Richards from the edge of the box to finally end Dundee resistance.
Data from the Opta supercomputer now gives Rangers a 26% chance of securing a first top-flight crown since the 2020-21 season. For that to happen, Rangers must overhaul both Hearts and Celtic, and maintain the strong Ibrox form already seen under head coach Danny Rohl.
Rangers have taken 11 wins from 13 home league fixtures with Rohl in charge, drawing the other two. No Scottish Premiership rival has more home victories in that period since Rohl’s first home league match in October. The club also moved to 13 league games unbeaten against Dundee, with nine wins and four draws.
The performance numbers backed up the final scoreline. Rangers attempted 21 shots, hitting the target 10 times and posting an expected goals value of 3.37. Dundee created 13 attempts with an xG of 1.34. Rangers therefore produced more pressure and clearer chances, even though Dundee twice reduced the deficit.
Ryan Naderi opened the scoring on 30 minutes, beating Ashley Maynard-Brewer, before Dujon Sterling added a second shortly before half-time. Amar Fatah replied to lift Dundee before the interval. Thelo Aasgaard restored Rangers’ two-goal cushion from Djeidi Gassama’s low cross, yet substitute Zachary Sapsford struck and Iurie Iovu later headed against a post to keep tension high at Ibrox.
