Senior police officials informed organisers that providing adequate security for a high-voltage fixture like the Kolkata Derby, just one day before the election verdict, would be challenging. With law enforcement resources stretched thin around the sensitive post-poll period, hosting the game on May 3 was deemed unfeasible.
