Newcastle United confirm that Kieran Trippier will leave the club when the current season ends, with the 35-year-old right-back set to depart St. James’ Park once the contract finishes in June, closing a four-and-a-half-year spell that brought long-awaited silverware and a return to regular Champions League football for Newcastle United.
Trippier joined Newcastle United from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, arriving when the team sat in the relegation zone, yet soon became a central figure in the squad, helping change results on the pitch and later wearing the captain’s armband during a period of steady progress under Eddie Howe.
One of the standout moments of Trippier’s time with Newcastle United came last season, when the defender helped the club defeat Liverpool in the EFL Cup final, securing Newcastle’s first domestic trophy in 70 years, a success Trippier describes as the highlight of a long career at the top level.
Trippier also played a major part in Newcastle United securing Champions League qualification in two of the last three seasons, including this campaign’s run to the last 16, which restored the club’s presence among Europe’s leading teams and underlined the defender’s influence in high-pressure matches.
Since arriving in January 2022, Trippier has played the fifth-most minutes of any Newcastle United player in all competitions, while delivering 28 assists, the third-highest total at the club in that period, behind Jacob Murphy on 29 and Bruno Guimaraes on 30, underlining consistent creative output from right-back.
In Premier League action for Newcastle United, Trippier has created 231 chances, more than any other defender in the division since the move from Atletico Madrid, highlighting set-piece quality and crossing accuracy, and showing why the coaching staff regularly trusted Trippier in key attacking situations.
