The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has expressed condolences on the death of former India forward Gilbertson Sangma, who passed away in Guwahati on April 3, 2026, at the age of 70.
A respected forward from Assam, Sangma represented India internationally in 1975. He debuted for the senior national team against Indonesia on April 17, 1975, during the Merdeka Cup in Jakarta, then known as the Marah Halim Cup. Sangma earned three caps for India, all in that tournament.
Domestically, he performed consistently for Assam in the Santosh Trophy from 1972 to 1980, scoring four goals across his appearances.
At the club level, Sangma played for Assam Police from 1972 to 1982. He contributed to their Bordoloi Trophy triumph in 1981, scoring the decisive goal in the final against Dempo.
