Croatia overturned an early setback to defeat Colombia 2-1 in an international friendly at Camping World Stadium, with Igor Matanovic heading the decisive goal. Jhon Arias had struck very early for Nestor Lorenzo’s team, but Croatia responded with two goals before half-time, then managed the second half well in a contest that stayed competitive until the final whistle.
The decisive moment arrived from a corner, as Marco Pasalic delivered an accurate set piece and Matanovic met it with a powerful header. The goal completed the turnaround before the break and rewarded Croatia’s improvement after a slow start. Colombia stayed dangerous, however, and continued to threaten on transitions, keeping the match tense for both defences.
Colombia had taken the lead inside two minutes after sharp work down the left. Jhon Lucumi’s cross was diverted into space by Luis Suarez, finding Arias unmarked. The winger finished clinically from close range, giving Colombia early control and forcing Croatia to respond quickly against an aggressive pressing approach.
Croatia found their equaliser only four minutes later through Luka Vuskovic. The defender tried his luck from long range and the strike took a slight touch off Lucumi. The deflection wrongfooted goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, who could not adjust in time, and the ball drifted in, restoring parity after a frantic opening spell.
After the break, chances kept coming but the scoreline stayed unchanged. Petar Musa went closest for Croatia, striking the crossbar twice in separate attacks. Colombia also created openings, with Suarez earlier missing two notable chances when the match was level. Neither team managed to add to the first-half scoring, and Croatia held on for the narrow victory in Orlando.
Elsewhere, Chile also produced a comeback, beating 10-man Cape Verde 4-2. Diney Borges received a red card, yet Cape Verde still went ahead through Sidny Cabral. Chile responded strongly after the interval, scoring three times in the second half to overturn the deficit and secure a two-goal winning margin.
Finland recorded a 2-0 win over New Zealand at Eden Park in another friendly fixture. The hosts struggled to create sustained pressure and rarely tested the visiting defence. Joel Pohjanpalo opened the scoring, and Jaakko Oksanen added a second, giving Finland control on the scoreboard and reflecting their greater efficiency in key moments near goal.

Croatia vs Colombia friendly data debrief and statistics
The numbers underlined Croatia’s sharp finishing against Colombia. Croatia attempted 12 shots compared with Colombia’s 13, and produced only three efforts on target. However, Croatia converted two of those chances, while Colombia recorded five attempts on target but scored once. Musa, in particular, might feel frustrated after twice hitting the woodwork.
Vuskovic’s contribution stood out in the data as well. The defender scored with the only shot taken in the entire match, recording a first goal for the national team. Combined with Matanovic’s winner, that efficiency allowed Croatia to claim victory despite spending long spells without clear openings, closing a competitive friendly programme on a positive result.
