April 1 (UPI) — BTS pays homage to another South Korean cultural icon, Oldboy, in its music video for “2.0.”
The K-pop stars released a video for the song Wednesday that calls to mind the famous hallway sequence from the 2003 film by director Park Chan-wook.
In another scene, the members perform in a room resembling the one where Oldboy‘s Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik) learns a devastating truth from Lee Woo-jin (Yoo Ji-tae).
Park is a famed South Korean director whose other films include The Handmaiden, Decision to Leave and No Other Choice.
“2.0” appears on BTS’ album Arirang, the group’s first new album in over five years. BTS performed the song on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon last week.
Arirang also features the tracks “Body to Body,” “Hooligan,” “Aliens,” “Fya,” “No. 29,” “Swim,” “Merry Go Round,” “Normal,” “Like Animals,” “They Don’t Know ‘Bout Us,” “One More Night,” “Please” and “Into the Sun.”
BTS will promote the album with a world tour that kicks off April 9 in South Korea.
