CD Tenerife have announced financial support for Jesus de Miguel’s daughter until she is 18, after her father passed away on Tuesday in a devastating incident.
De Miguel lost his life while playing for Tenerife following an on-field collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Spanish Segunda División match.
Tenerife president Antonio Manuel Porro Granados announced the initiative, stressing that the club wanted to stand alongside the family beyond its legal obligations.
“Our intention is to accompany this young girl and ensure that the entire Tenerife family supports her. We want to be by her side at least until she reaches adulthood. We will provide the maximum possible support in every respect, beyond what the law obliges us to provide,” Porro Granados said.
The announcement came during an emotional tribute organised in memory of De Miguel at the Heliodoro Rodríguez Lopez Stadium on Saturday. Players, supporters, club officials and members of the football community gathered to pay their respects to the forward.
While speaking with The Athletic, Granados also confirmed that they are looking to provide her support beyond financial terms.
“We will provide the maximum possible support in every respect, beyond what we are legally obliged to provide. We are also exploring other ways of increasing the financial support, so that, at least in material terms, the circumstances do not affect their lives quite so much – although, of course, it is impossible for them not to have an impact,” he added.
Tenerife’s majority shareholder Rayco Garcia had earlier promised that De Miguel’s daughter would not be left without support. He also urged the players to stand by the striker’s partner, Maria, and their young daughter during the difficult period.
Along with Tenerife, other organizations and individuals have also taken initiative to help the family following De Miguel’s untimely death.
Hercules forward Fran Sol has created a separate crowdfunding for the family, and Spain players such as Alvaro Morata, Alex Baena are among the contributors, which has already raised more than €100,000. As per Athletic, the family will also receive around €360,000 as base compensation.
