A child and at least one adult are dead after a man drove a vehicle through a soccer game at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, Saturday afternoon, police said.
Multiple people were injured and taken to local hospitals before police arrested the driver at the scene, authorities said.
Emergency dispatchers in Sedgwick County began receiving 911 calls around 3:25 p.m. reporting that a vehicle had entered the field at 2999 Greenwich Road. Two juvenile passengers were also inside the vehicle during the crash.
Multiple law enforcement and emergency medical crews responded to the scene, including the Wichita Fire Department, Sedgwick County EMS, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, and the Bel Air Police Department.
The Wichita Police Department confirmed on social media that officers were investigating a “mass casualty incident” and that there was no remaining threat to the public.

Speaking at a news briefing shortly after the incident, Captain Aaron Moses, executive officer with the Wichita Police Department, outlined the status of the investigation.
“We have two fatalities confirmed here at the scene, and multiple other casualties with individuals transported to area hospitals,” Moses said. “The vehicle involved in this incident remained at the scene. The driver of that vehicle is currently in our custody.”
