Odisha FC may have undergone some changes in the squad, but their captain Lalthanthanga Khawlhring expects no excuses from the players ahead of the new season.
Odisha FC will begin their Indian Super League campaign against Punjab FC, and before that, Khawlhring, who is known as Puitea, feels a buoyant atmosphere in the team.
“The mood and atmosphere in the dressing room are very good, and we have high hopes for this season. We have good players, and there can be no excuses. Everyone has to adapt to the situation, and most of the players are already doing so. The atmosphere within the team is positive,” says Puitea at the pre-match press conference.
On Captaincy and Squad Changes
Despite a number of changes in the squad for the Kalinga Warriors, Puitea says he finds his leadership role an honour and expects to showcase his leadership skills on the pitch.
“I take captaincy and pressure as an honour. It is going to be difficult, especially for this team, because Carlos and Amrinder have left, and their departures have created a huge void. I will try to take on as much responsibility as possible and always be there for the team, the staff and the club,” Puitea says.
The former Mohun Bagan midfielder has commenced his fourth season at the club and expects to continue his legacy at the club.
“First of all, I am very happy and glad that I have already spent three years here at Odisha FC, and now I have another year with the club. I don’t know what the future holds, but hopefully, I will stay here,” he adds.
“Regarding the new players, both the foreign and Indian signings, what makes me happy is that they are all very good people. For me, that is the most important thing for a team. They are also very good players. Even now, there are times when we all listen to each other and share our thoughts. We have a very good connection among ourselves, and I think we are fortunate to have this kind of group of players,” he concludes.
