Five members of one family were killed in a shooting at a Georgia home in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Police responded to the home in Douglas, a city in the southern portion of the state, after receiving a call about an active shooter at the home on Robin Lane just after 11 p.m. Friday.
Four people were found dead inside the home, while a fifth adult was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The fifth person was later pronounced dead.
The shooter is also dead, WJCL reported.
“Investigators believe this was an apparent murder-suicide involving the immediate family members who reside in the home,” Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette said during a news conference Saturday, according to WSB-TV 2.

Pruette said one of the victims called 911 before they died.
“It’s my understanding the call was placed by the wife, the female victim. She called and was complaining about the husband who was in the house smoking, and she said he was killing her with the smoke,” Pruette said.
He did not elaborate or provide any additional details about the call or the events leading up to the deaths. Police are not releasing the names of the victims at this time. They said there is no sign of an ongoing threat to the public.
Coffee County Sheriff Fred Cole encouraged the public to be compassionate and allow the loved ones of the victims time to grieve.
“Five individuals lost their lives, and their family and friends woke up hurting today,” Cole said during the press conference, per WJCL. “This was a hard scene for everybody involved.”
The deceased will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsies.
“We’re a close community, and we’re going to take care of each other,” Cole said. “We’re going to get through this together.”
Police said their investigation is active and ongoing.
