Sept. 8 (UPI) — New Hampshire voters were among the last to head to the polls Tuesday to vote in this year’s primaries ahead of the November elections.

Top billing in this year’s election is the open Senate seat vacated by retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat. She served three terms before announcing her retirement in 2025.

President Donald Trump has put his endorsement behind former Sen. John E. Sununu, who is facing off against another former senator, Scott Brown, The New York Times reported.

Sununu served in the Senate from 2003 to 2008 before losing a challenge by Jeanne Shaheen. Brown represented Massachusetts in the Senate for three years before serving as Trump’s ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa.

For Democrats, Rep. Chris Pappas is facing progressive challenger Karishma Manzur, who is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Pappas’ seat in the House, meanwhile, is also on the ballot. The 1st Congressional District features a host of candidates, the leading two among Democrats are Marine veteran Maura Sullivan and Stefany Shaheen, daughter of the retiring senator. For Republicans, Trump-endorsed businessman Anthony DiLorenzo is facing state Rep. Brian Cole and veteran Hollie Noveletsky.

On the state level, Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte is up for re-election and isn’t facing any major challengers, NBC News reported.
