Mohammed Sanan’s next destination could be Kolkata, with Mohun Bagan and East Bengal emerging as the leading contenders for the former Jamshedpur FC player.

MyKhel understands the transfer situation has changed significantly in recent days, with both Kolkata giants stepping up their efforts to secure Sanan. The Kerala-born footballer is now seriously considering a move to the City of Joy, with discussions surrounding his next club gathering momentum.

Sanan has a liking for Mohun Bagan, giving the Mariners an encouraging position in the race. However, that preference does not rule out a move to East Bengal. The player also admires the Torch Bearers and remains open to joining either of Kolkata’s historic clubs.

The two rivals are therefore actively working on a deal, while other interested clubs appear to have lost ground in the race.

FC Goa, Mumbai City FC and NorthEast United FC have all shown interest in Sanan. However, their pursuit has seemingly slowed in comparison to the efforts being made by Mohun Bagan and East Bengal over the past few days.

A decision on his future is expected soon as Sanan weighs up his options. With the Kolkata clubs currently ahead, the final choice could come down to which project offers the player the most attractive sporting opportunity.

Importantly, Sanan’s potential move will not necessarily be restricted by the ongoing transfer window. Having become a free agent after his departure from Jamshedpur FC, he is free to negotiate and complete a move outside the conventional transfer-window timeline, subject to applicable registration regulations.

The 22-year-old Malappuram-born winger joined Jamshedpur FC back in 2023 and had a few fruitful seasons with them, which also earned him India caps. The left winger signed a new deal in 2024 at JFC, but Jamshedpur’s sad demise from the Indian football map has forced Sanan to seek a new home, as he preferred not to be a part of the Churchill Brothers setup, which inherited JFC’s license.
