Aug. 17 (UPI) — New York Jets running back Breece Hall left practice early because of a groin strain Monday in Florham Park, N.J., coach Aaron Glenn told reporters.
ESPN, the New York Post and New York Daily News reported that Hall went down with the non-contact injury while running after a catch during red zone drills.
“Breece strained his groin,” Glenn said. “I don’t think it was a big deal, but I want to make sure I get the evaluation on that.
“The one good thing about our players, they are honest with their injuries. If they can go, they can go, but we were trying to be precautionary with a lot of those, to make sure we do the right things.”
Hall, 25, totaled at least 1,300 yards from scrimmage each of the last three seasons. He logged 1,415 yards, including a career-best 1,065 rushing yards, and five scores off 279 touches last season.
Hall, who signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract extension in May, missed just two games over the last three seasons.
Braelon Allen is the Jets’ second-string running back, ahead of Isaiah Davis and Kene Nwangwu, among others. The Jets owned the No. 10 rushing attack in the NFL last season.
The Jets will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in their second preseason game at 7 p.m. EDT Friday in Pittsburgh. They will host the New York Giants in their preseason finale Aug. 28 in East Rutherford, N.J.
The Jets will meet the Tennessee Titans in their regular-season opener Sept. 13 in Nashville.
