Aug. 17 (UPI) — Head coach Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes dismissed wide receiver Cam Vaughn from their football program, he announced Monday.
Cristobal announced the move during a radio appearance on 104.3 WQAM. He did not provide a reason for Vaughn’s dismissal.
“Cam Vaughn has been dismissed from the team,” Cristobal said. “Wish him the best. The Canes will press on and we’re ready for our next practice.”
Vaughn was an off-season transfer from West Virginia. He caught 35 passes for 541 yards and four scores over 12 appearances last season for the Mountaineers. He spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Jacksonville State.
The Hurricanes’ wide receivers room, led by Malachi Toney, also features Duke transfer Cooper Barkate, South Carolina transfer Vandrevius Jacobs and sophomores Daylyn Upshaw and Josh Moore.
Several freshman also could compete for playing time, including top recruits Somourian Wingo and Milan Parris.
Cristobal also commented on junior running back Jordan Lyle, who was arrested last week and faces charges of aggressively fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and reckless driving.
“We’re allowing legal processes to play out there,” Cristobal said.
The Hurricanes, who went 13-3 last season en route to a national title game appearances, have a win total set at 10.5 at most sports books. They are among the Top 10 title favorites for 2026-27.
The Hurricanes will take on Stanford in their regular-season opener at 9 p.m. EDT Sept. 4 in Stanford, Calif.
