Aug. 3 (UPI) — Roman Reigns ended his feud with Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens returned in a big way at WWE SummerSlam on Sunday.
Reigns successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Rollins in the main event on Sunday.
The match paid homage to Reigns and Rollins’ storied history starting with their time together as iconic group The Shield. Reigns and Rollins performed each other moves and even maneuvers from missing Shield member Dean Ambrose, who now wrestles for AEW as Jon Moxley.
Reigns won the match after he was able to dodge a top rope Stomp from Rollins followed by three Spears to earn the three count. Afterwards, Reigns and Rollins performed the signature Shield fist bump in the middle of the ring.
Kevin Owens, who has been out of action for over a year due to injury, was added to the No. 1 contender’s match between Sami Zayn and Finn Balor. The bout was turned into a Fatal 4-Way by SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis, who also added Gunther into the mix.
Owens received a warm welcome from the crowd as he cleared the ring before brawling with his longtime friend and sometimes rival, Zayn.
Owens won the match after landing multiple Stunners and gained an opportunity to face CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship at a later date.
Chelsea Green won the biggest match of her career at SummerSlam after she was able to climb the ladder and become the new Interim WWE Women’s Champion.
Green defeated Charlotte Flair, Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill and Lash Legend. Green earned the Interim title due to champion Rhea Ripley being injured. The two will meet down the line to determine the true WWE Women’s Champion.
Also at SummerSlam Sunday, Baron Corbin defeated Trick Williams to become the new United States Champion; Danhausen defeated Dirty Dominik Mysterio in a Human Monies on a Pole match; and Chad Gable defeated Penta to become the new Intercontinental Champion.
On SummerSlam Saturday, CM Punk successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes. Punk won the match after Rhodes’ nemesis Randy Orton returned and nailed the American Nightmare with an RKO.
In the main event on Saturday, Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar clashed for a third time inside the Hell in a Cell structure. Lesnar tried to put Femi away by ripping up the ring canvas to expose the wooden boards that lie underneath.
Lesnar paid homage to his old rival The Undertaker when he performed a Tombstone onto the exposed wood, but Femi survived the attack. Femi then delivered a Fall from Grace to win the hard-hitting contest. Lesnar afterwards raised Femi’s hand in victory and called himself the past while referring to Femi as the future.
Also at SummerSlam Saturday, Nikki Bella, Brie Bella and Paige lost their match to newcomers Fatal Influence. Nikki Bella, frustrated, attacked Paige after the match alongside her sister.
Liv Morgan was able to retain her Women’s World Championship after a highly-competitive match with Iyo Sky. Morgan received help from her Judgement Day teammates Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez and eventually landed her finishing move Oblivion to win the match.
