July 29 (UPI) — A yoga teacher living in Vietnam put his skills to the ultimate test by performing 86 pushups underwater with only a single breath.
Kamal Kaloi, 38, who is originally from India, said his training in calisthenics and breath holding prepared him for his October 2025 attempt at a pool in Ninh Binh.
Kaloi previously earned the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive yoga positions underwater, achieving 21 in 2020.
“I had a passion to do something different right from the beginning. Whenever I saw someone who had made a record or achieved anything like this, I was always inspired by them,” he told Guinness World Records. “When I made my first world record about underwater yoga, I realized my strength and decided to challenge myself more.”
The record-keeping organization reviewed evidence of his 86 pushups and has now confirmed he earned the record for the most underwater push ups with a single breath (male).
“Of course yoga helped me a lot in making this record,” he said. “I had very good experience in holding my breath, which I used during my world record and I became an expert in holding my breath for six minutes. I am an expert in not only holding my breath in water for six minutes but also doing activities while holding my breath.”
