July 25 (UPI) — A Pride parade in Berlin was evacuated on Saturday after a car drove into a crowd at the event, killing one person and injuring many more.

The annual LGBTQ+ pride event, called Christopher Street Day, was cancelled after the car drove into Tiergarten park, where a series of events tied was help after a parade through the city, the BBC and The Independent reported.

The annual event drew hundreds of thousands of people to the park, which is near the Brandenberg Gate, Fox News reported.

Police said that they were conducting an intense manhunt to find the suspect, but did not say if they are aware of a motive.

“We are currently deployed with numerous police forces, as well as rescue units from the Berlin Fire department,” police said in a post on X.

A van reportedly drove into the crowd, killing one person and injuring 15 people, some of whom police said have life-threatening injuries.

The police department did not specify how many officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the event, but the evening celebrations, which included a concert, were immediately called off.
