Manchester United delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over Rosenborg in a pre-season friendly at Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim on Friday evening.

The result marked head coach Michael Carrick’s first win of the summer and provided a strong response to the previous week’s 1-0 defeat by Wrexham.

United controlled proceedings from the outset and deservedly took the lead in the 31st minute. Academy midfielder Shea Lacey produced a fine curled finish after a well-constructed move to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage at the interval.

Carrick made a series of changes at half-time and shortly after the hour mark, introducing further youth talent into the side. The fresh legs made an immediate impact. Joshua Zirkzee doubled the lead in the 56th minute with a superb individual effort, driving forward and finishing clinically after a dazzling solo run.

Just seven minutes later, substitute Jacob Devaney made it 3-0, finishing confidently to underline the growing influence of United’s academy products. Full-back Harry Amass added a fourth goal in the 72nd minute, before fellow youngster Ethan Williams completed the scoring with a well-taken fifth in the 84th minute.

Rosenborg struggled to create meaningful opportunities throughout and offered little resistance as United maintained their intensity. The home side made numerous substitutions of their own but were unable to disrupt the visitors’ rhythm or prevent the goals from flowing.

The emphatic victory has further epitomized the quality in Carrick’s squad and the promising depth of the club’s youth ranks. Lacey, Devaney, Amass and Williams all found the net, while senior players such as Zirkzee, Mason Mount and Harry Maguire contributed to a fluid and purposeful performance.
