July 24 (UPI) — South African singer Tyla took to the stage on Today.

The music artist, 24, performed and discussed her new album A*Pop on Friday’s episode of the NBC morning show.

Tyla performed “Is It Love,” the third single to debut from A*Pop, and discussed the significance of the album’s title in an interview.

“I honestly wanted to honor my inner child,” the star said. “My inner child dream of being a pop star and how it always felt unobtainable being from the bottom of Africa, literally South Africa.”

“Now that I have been given this opportunity, I really wanted to extend the idea of what a pop star looks like from Africa,” she added. “So yeah, I thought A*Pop — I bring the ‘A’ to pop.”

Tyla also performed “Water,” the hit single from her 2024 self-titled debut studio album.

Tyla is a two-time Grammy winner for Best African Music Performance — for “Water” in 2024 and “Push 2 Start” this year.
