Donald Trump has promised the “LARGEST FIREWORKS SHOW IN HISTORY” for the Fourth of July, but is yet to disclose who is paying for the theatrics.

Fireworks shows for the celebration of Independence are an annual tradition, but previous shows put on by the White House have publicly available payment and funding disclosures. There are no public records available for payments between the White House and fireworks supplier Pyrotecnico, according to NOTUS.

This fireworks display comes after the president hosted a UFC match on the White House Lawn which was ostensibly for the 250th birthday, but also coincided with Trump’s birthday weekend.

A leading fireworks technician, James Woods of Pyro Sales, told NOTUS: “You’re talking a many multimillion-dollar production, without a doubt.”

Woods said individual fireworks for this display could cost as much as $1,000. Even if they were priced at a low-point of $50 each, this show is expected to use 850,000 pyrotechnics, bringing the cost into the millions.

As well as the shrouded deal with Pyrotecnico, the White House has paid a publicly disclosed $1.5 million to Garden State Fireworks; the fireworks company that has put on previous 4th of July shows. This was significantly higher than previous years, where Garden State undertook the display for approximately $300,000.

The White House, Garden State Fireworks, and Pyrotechnico have been contacted for comment.

It is unclear which company’s will be involved in this year’s show, given that it is set to take place across 10 locations. Or, if the $1.5 million payment was for a different use of pyrotechnics across the festivities.

Previous Independent reporting found that the total celebrations, including the fireworks, are being funded in part by $90 million being taken from the National Parks Service. This money is reportedly from a fund intended for the repair and restoration of national parks, which includes the National Mall in D.C.

A typical White House Fourth of July show lasts about 17 minutes, but this year the White House is aiming to break the world record for shells used in a fireworks show. This record is currently held by a church in the Philippines which used 810,904 fireworks in a display.

It is also scheduled for later than usual, beginning at 10:30p.m., instead of the usual 9:00p.m, to leave time for a “spectacular TRUMP RALLY,” per U.S. News.

The fireworks are not the only event with unclear funding. The entire America250 celebration, which has been taking place on the National Mall for the past month, is being run by an events company, Event Strategies Inc., founded by former Trump aides.

An estimated $68 million of taxpayer money is going into the America250 festivities, according to the New York Times reporting, but it is difficult to track down how much taxpayer money is going straight to Event Strategies Inc., because the money has been moved into an “opaque nonprofit.”
