June 8 (UPI) — The Atlanta Hawks and coach Quin Snyder agreed to a multiyear contract extension, the team announced Monday.
Snyder led the Hawks to a 132-135 record over the last four seasons, including 46-36 in 2025-26. The Hawks made the postseason twice during his tenure as head coach. They lost to the Eastern Conference champion New York Knicks in the first round this postseason.
“I am grateful to the Ressler family and humbled to continue leading this team,” Snyder said in a news release. “I love this group of players, love coaching this team and am fortunate to have a tremendous coaching staff.
“Atlanta has truly been home for my family, and I am excited to continue this journey.”
Snyder, who was 10-11 after he took over as Hawks coach in 2022-23, improved the team’s record over each of the last three seasons. They were 36-46 in his second season and 40-42 last season.
Atlanta’s 46 wins in 2025-26 was its most since 2015-16. The team’s 20-6 record after the All-Star break was the best in the Eastern Conference and third-best in the NBA, trailing only the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
“Quin has been a phenomenal leader for our team, and extending his contract reflects our commitment to stability and sustained growth as we build toward high-level success,” Hawks president of basketball operations Onsi Saleh said.
“Over the past three seasons and amid an evolving roster, we’ve seen clear, measurable progress, which is a testament to the culture he’s established and the leadership he brings every day.
“He has created an environment where our players are challenged, supported, and empowered to grow, and that focus on player development has elevated our entire program.”
The 2025-26 Hawks ranked sixth in points per game and 18th in points allowed. The Hawks haven’t advanced to the NBA Finals since 1960-61, when they were based in St. Louis.
