Switzerland finished their World Cup warm-up schedule with a 4-1 win over Jordan in St. Gallen, in a match disrupted by a storm and a rare double final whistle. The result completed preparations before Switzerland travel to San Diego for their World Cup camp and Group B opener against Qatar on June 13.

Several other World Cup warm-up games also took place. Cape Verde secured a 3-0 victory over Serbia, who rested key players including Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Filip Kostic. Czechia, drawn in Group A, defeated Kosovo 2-1 thanks to goals from Tomas Ladra and Adam Hlozek.

Switzerland’s attacking display was decisive early. Dan Ndoye opened the scoring, before Breel Embolo and Granit Xhaka both converted penalties to give Murat Yakin’s team a clear first-half lead. Jordan responded shortly after the restart, with Odeh Fakhoury narrowing the deficit, but the contest stayed under Switzerland’s control throughout.

The most unusual scenes came late on. Referee Rohit Saggi first ended the match after 88 minutes, as heavy rain and strong wind swept across St. Gallen. Players began post-match interviews and the Switzerland squad applauded supporters, only for officials to confirm that the final minutes still needed to be completed after a 15-minute delay.

Once play resumed, substitute Christian Fassnacht struck Switzerland’s fourth goal in the 79th minute recorded on the stadium clock, sealing a 4-1 scoreline before the second full-time whistle. The win sends Switzerland to the United States in confident mood, with another friendly scheduled against Australia as final preparation before the World Cup begins.

Performance data underlined Switzerland’s dominance over fellow World Cup qualifiers Jordan, who will face Argentina, Austria and Algeria in Group J. The hosts produced 19 shots and generated 4.07 expected goals (xG). Jordan managed 12 attempts worth 1.35 xG, suggesting Switzerland created clearer chances and maintained pressure for long spells.

Yakin gained further positives from leading players getting on the scoresheet, especially Embolo. Embolo was one of only five players to score multiple goals at both the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, alongside Harry Kane, Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug and Cody Gakpo. That record adds extra confidence as Switzerland head towards Qatar in Group B.
