May 19 (UPI) — Matthew Lillard and Frank Welker will reprise their roles of Shaggy and Scooby-Doo in a new anime series that will air on Tubi.
“Jinkies! Scooby & Shaggy are headed to @tubi in Yokoso Scooby-Doo! Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard are officially back as the voices of #ScoobyDoo and Shaggy,” Warner Bros. Animation wrote on Instagram Monday.
The message included an image of the iconic sleuths in their Mystery Machine van along with some new characters and monsters they meet while visiting Japan.
“FRANK AND MATTHEW RETURNING? WE WON,” Tubi wrote on X.
“Scooby-Doo is one of the most beloved franchises in entertainment, and Yokoso Scooby-Doo! lets us reinvent it in a way fans haven’t seen before,” Tubi chief content officer Adam Lewinson said in a statement Monday.
“By bringing Scooby and Shaggy into a bold anime world set in Japan, we’re connecting with global fandoms and delivering the kind of fun, chaotic mystery that travels across generations. As we grow our animation slate, this is exactly our brand of fan-first storytelling — familiar, surprising, and unmistakably Tubi.”
Lillard played Shaggy in two live-action movies and voiced the character in numerous subsequent animated projects.
Welker originated the character of Fred when the Scooby-Doo franchise began in 1969 and has been voicing Scooby-Doo since 2002.
Production is also underway on a modern, live-action Scooby-Doo prequel series at Netflix.
It will feature how the group of teen mystery-solvers meet Scooby as a puppy.
Tanner Hagen will play Shaggy.
