Napoli’s goalless draw away to Como keeps Cesc Fabregas’ side eight points behind, with three league games remaining, and leaves Antonio Conte’s team on the brink of Champions League qualification, even though the result almost ends their hopes of defending the Serie A title.
The match at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia finished 0-0 on Saturday, with Napoli managing only one shot on target, yet the visitors extended their unbeaten away run and produced another strong defensive display against Como’s top-four contenders.
Conte underlined the importance of the contest, given the Champions League stakes for both clubs, and highlighted the attitude shown by Napoli against a direct rival. “It was certainly a good performance, as without that you dont emerge unscathed from a game where both Napoli and Como had a lot at stake. Como probably had more at stake with Champions League qualification,” Conte told DAZN Italia.
The point keeps Napoli clear of fifth-placed Como, meaning a top-four finish now appears almost assured, while Inter can secure the Scudetto on Sunday against Parma, which would effectively end Napoli’s title defence one season after lifting the trophy.
The draw continues a positive trend on the road for Napoli, who are now unbeaten in four consecutive away league fixtures this season, with two wins and two draws, matching a similar sequence last achieved between March and September 2025, when they put together a seven-match away run.
Conte’s side also maintained their recent defensive improvement, collecting a fourth clean sheet in six Serie A matches, which equals the number of shutouts recorded across the previous 16 league games and underlines how Napoli have tightened up at the back.
| Napoli stat | Current run | Previous reference |
|---|---|---|
| Away unbeaten streak | 4 games (W2 D2) | 7 games from March–September 2025 (W4 D3) |
| Clean sheets | 4 in last 6 Serie A games | 4 in previous 16 Serie A games |
| Lead over Como | 8 points | 3 games remaining |
Napoli vs Como draw analysed by Conte
Conte admitted Napoli were not aggressive enough before half-time and felt the press lacked intensity against Como’s build-up. “We were a little too timid in the first half and didnt put the right pressure on. Let us not forget they have a goalkeeper [Jean Butez] who makes it very difficult, because with the slightest wrong movement, he can get away and then force you to sprint back to cover the space.”
After the interval, Napoli raised the tempo and started to create clearer openings, which Conte viewed as progress for the group in the final stretch of the season. “We improved in terms of quality after the restart, had chances to score goals, but there are three games to go. We made another step forward, not just for a Champions League place, but also to try and finish as high up the table as possible.”
Conte praised the attitude of the squad against a Como team still chasing a historic top-four finish and reflected on the collective effort needed to protect a clean sheet away from home. “The lads did well, we must congratulate them for the performance against a tough opponent.”
With three fixtures left, Napoli’s main objective now shifts towards locking in Champions League football and potentially climbing higher in the Serie A standings, while the draw at Como, though encouraging in performance terms, leaves Inter in position to claim the title against Parma on Sunday.
