April 28 (UPI) — Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has announced she is leaving the Broadway musical, Moulin Rouge!, earlier than planned.
“Unfortunately, my last performance on Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be May 1. It’s been such an honor to be part of Moulin Rouge and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theater!” the Grammy-winning artist said in a statement Monday.
“Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work! Every single person at the Moulin Rouge has inspired me to go harder as an entertainer,” she added.
“I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful. Y’all are really some of the kindest human beings I’ve ever met! To all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey!”
The show’s producers said her replacement in the role of Zidler for May 2-17 will be announced soon.
The production opened in 2019 and won 10 Tony Awards.
It is set to play its final performance on Broadway Aug. 30.
Megan began her run in the show in March, but was hospitalized for exhaustion shortly after her debut.
She did not give a specific reason for exiting the musical two weeks earlier than scheduled.
Entertainment Tonight reported that she seemed emotional at the curtain call for Saturday’s show, just hours after confirming she split with her boyfriend, pro basketball player Klay Thompson.
