Como’s 2-0 victory over Genoa brought another step towards Champions League qualification but also concern, as Nico Paz left the match and went to hospital after suffering vision problems following a head clash during the Serie A fixture at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Paz was withdrawn at half-time after a collision with Genoa defender Alessandro Marcandalli. Medical staff reported that Paz said he could not see clearly from one eye. Como replaced the attacking midfielder during the interval and arranged immediate hospital checks to assess any possible head or eye damage.
The win in Genoa moved Como to within two points of fourth-placed Juventus. That position currently carries a Champions League place. Cesc Fabregas and the squad therefore protected an important result while missing one of their most creative players for the second half of the match.
Paz has been central to Como’s attack this season. In all competitions, the 21-year-old has scored 13 goals and supplied eight assists. Within Serie A alone, Paz has created 48 chances, delivered six assists and scored 12 goals, underlining how much Como rely on the midfielder in the final third.

Sky Sport Italia later reported that Paz underwent tests and received a clean bill of health before being discharged. Their update confirmed that the hospital visit was mainly precautionary. The news eased fears for Como, who need Paz available as they chase Juventus and defend their Champions League qualification hopes.
Nico is doing better, Fabregas told reporters during his post-match press conference. He is in hospital, and they are evaluating him there. He was struggling to see properly. In any case, it is important for us to be able to find many different solutions from the team.
Since joining Como in August 2024, Paz has missed only four league fixtures. During those matches without Paz, Fabregas’ team have won once, drawn one and lost twice. The latest scare highlighted again how strongly Como’s attacking structure and Champions League ambitions depend on the availability of the 21-year-old playmaker.
