Liverpool reached the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over Wolves, secured by three second-half goals at Molineux. Andy Robertson struck first, before Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones extended the lead. Hwang Hee-chan replied in stoppage time, but Rob Edwards’ side could not repeat their Premier League success.
The result came three days after Wolves beat Liverpool at the same stadium in the league, adding extra edge to this fifth-round tie. Liverpool responded with a far more controlled display, limiting Wolves to very few openings while creating regular chances, especially after half-time.
The opening 45 minutes brought little goalmouth action, with Wolves failing to produce a single shot. Liverpool came closest when Cody Gakpo struck the post from an offside position, so the effort did not count. The match stayed tense, but Liverpool always appeared the side more likely to find a breakthrough.
The game changed six minutes after the restart. Robertson collected the ball about 25 yards from goal and drove a fierce low strike into the bottom-right corner. Sam Johnstone could not reach the shot, which also marked Robertson’s first Liverpool goal from outside the penalty area.
Liverpool doubled the advantage almost at once. Robertson delivered a cross that found Salah inside the box, and the forward finished from close range. The assistant’s flag initially ruled it out, but a VAR check confirmed the goal, giving Salah a crucial strike and Robertson an assist to add to the earlier goal.
Jones then removed any doubt on 74 minutes. The midfielder drifted past two challenges and curled a shot beyond Johnstone with the weaker left foot. Wolves finally responded in added time, when Hwang converted a consolation, yet the hosts never looked likely to rescue the tie.
FA Cup numbers underline Liverpool control over Wolves
Robertson delivered one of the standout individual displays. The left-back both scored and assisted in the same game for Liverpool for the third time in all competitions, with those matches coming at Anfield, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Molineux. Robertson also created four chances, matching Dominik Szoboszlai for the highest figure on the pitch.
The defender further led the match in several key metrics, recording 125 touches, 95 completed passes and seven possessions won. Team statistics also backed Liverpool’s dominance, as Rob Edwards’ players struggled to gain territory or test the visiting defence across the 90 minutes.
{TABLE_1}
Liverpool generated 1.8 expected goals from 20 attempts, while Wolves managed 0.44 expected goals from only four shots. Those numbers reflected the pattern of the contest, with Liverpool largely controlling proceedings and responding strongly to their recent league defeat at Molineux by progressing in the FA Cup.
